Woman killed in Stockton accident
STOCKTON — A Bemus Point woman died in a one-vehicle crash early Thursday.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, at 5:50 a.m. Thursday deputies received a report of a motor vehicle accident on Route 380 in the town. Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS from the Stockton Fire Department were subsequently dispatched to the scene.
Deputies and members of the Stockton Fire Department arrived on scene and determined it was a single vehicle crash. Stacey A. Grimes, 46, of Maple Springs Ellery Road, was the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle. At the time of the arrival of the first responders Grimes was found to be deceased.
The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Chautauqua County Coroner’s Office, has investigated the accident and found that the Grimes’ vehicle was traveling north on Route 380 when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. At that time the vehicle went off of the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. The road was closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours while the scene was being investigated.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Stockton Volunteer Fire Department, Chautauqua County Coroner’s Office, Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities and the Chautauqua County Fire Police.
