Special to the OBSERVER

Something special is bound to happen when you bring older kids together with younger kids, especially when those older kids are taking on a mentoring or modeling role for the little ones. In recognition of International Day of Peace students from the Cassadaga Job Corps Academy visited with K-2 students at Dunkirk School #4.

The older kids were actually young adults, visiting to share the message of peace and harmony that the day is meant to foster. They delivered their message with specially selected books that carried a central theme of peace to the audience of elementary students.

The International Day of Peace provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace. The Job Corps students were part of the program’s Youth 2 Youth program, a group of students committed to addressing youth violence, bullying, and engaging the community.

As the group worked to set up a community activity they reached out to the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County to assist in finding an appropriate venue and partner.
