CELORON — Several hundred area veterans are set to receive their second dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine during a clinic planned Sunday in the village of Celoron. In addition, two hundred doses have been made available to vets in need of their first shot, with some spots still available.
The clinic will once again take place at the Herman Kent Post 777 on Jackson Avenue. The first round of vaccinations administered to 700 vets by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs took place on Feb. 28.
“The VA is committed to stopping this virus by vaccinating our veteran population,” said Courtney Domowicz, a COVID-19 vaccination coordinator for the VA. “We want to protect these veterans who have protected us.”
Veterans interesting in signing up for Sunday’s clinic in Celoron are asked to call the COVID-19 vaccination call center at 716-862-7868.
Domowicz said a similar vaccination clinic is being scheduled for the Olean area in Cattaraugus County at a future date.
According to the state’s vaccine tracker, 31, 631 residents within Chautauqua County have received at least one dose, with 15,176 completing their vaccination series.
The planned clinics come as the county has seen an uptick in new confirmed cases of the virus. A day after 42 new cases were reported, the county Health Department noted 46 new cases, 157 active cases and 422 people in quarantine. The positivity rate also grew to 1.3%, according to numbers released Friday.
Of the new cases, 11 came from the Dunkirk area and 19 from Jamestown. Several municipalities also reported one or two new cases.
To date there have been 7,948 confirmed cases, 7,650 recoveries and 141 virus-related deaths.
