Meaux officially takes city development post

Jill Meaux became full-time director of planning and development for the city of Dunkirk at Tuesday’s Common Council meeting.

The council tabled a motion to name Meaux, acting director since Jan. 11, to the position permanently at the April 20 meeting. Tuesday, the five members unanimously approved the motion.

The tabling happened because council members wanted to meet with Meaux first. Councilman James Stoyle indicated April 20 that he wanted to meet with Meaux first about “some situations,” as he put it. Councilman Paul VanDenVouver said then, “I don’t foresee any problems, but we’d just like to sit down and answer a couple of questions and get a little info on some things.”

Stoyle said Tuesday the issues were resolved to his satisfaction. Meaux promised she would keep an eye on them. Neither person offered any explanation as to what they were talking about.

Meaux takes over for Rebecca Wurster, who departed in January for a job at the Chautauqua County Planning Department. Meaux’s salary, according to the resolution, is $60,000 per year.

A resident of Fredonia, Meaux was also named chairman of the City of Dunkirk Industrial Development Agency in a separate resolution at Tuesday’s meeting. She will chair that body by virtue of being the planning and development director, the resolution states.
