Forestville schools see some changes

FORESTVILLE — The Forestville Board of Education, which previously had one open seat due to the resignation of David Caccamise, filled that slot this month. Michelle Merritt took the oath to accept the position at Thursday afternoon’s meeting. Additionally, Carol Woodward was unanimously re-elected as Board of Education President.

“I just want to say thank you everyone for having faith in me to do this again,” Woodward said. “I think we have an awesome group and I’m so proud of everyone on the board.”

The role of Vice President for 2021-22 will be filled by Merv Fry, also unanimously elected while running unopposed.

“Thank you all for your confidence,” Fry said to the rest of the Board of Education.

Additionally, Forestville Superintendent Renee Garrett announced John Perry as the school business executive. Perry has assisted and been the lead auditor in auditing the Forestville district for the last eight years. Perry has a degree in accounting from SUNY Fredonia and has been with the district for the last few weeks.

“He has such a strong accounting background that he understands school finance on that side,” Garrett said. “He’s really bringing his office together.”

Because he has been working with the district, Perry is familiar with some of the Board of Education members but is excited to get to work in his new position.

“There are a lot of familiar faces but there are a lot I don’t know,” Perry said. “Hopefully we can change that soon. I look forward to working with everyone.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
