OBSERVER Photo by M.J. Stafford Part of a tree fell and blocked Woodrow Avenue in Dunkirk during Saturday afternoon's high winds. Over on SUNY Fredonia's campus, a large tree fell onto Ring Road. Also, traffic was getting detoured from Central Avenue near its intersection with Waldorf Road as of 5 p.m.

Winds clocked at speeds of more than 60 mph in the north county are already creating havoc on Saturday afternoon. Pictured above is a damaged home and vehicle on East Main Street in Fredonia near Cleveland Avenue. This photo was taken around 3:45 p.m. of the home.

As of late Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service reported wind speeds of 68 mph in Fredonia at 4 p.m.; 64 mph in Fredonia at 2:25 p.m.; 63 mph in Dunkirk at 3:15 p.m.; 52 mph in Ripley at 3:38 p.m.
