Brook gets special recognition in Hanover on Lodi St.

HANOVER — Hanover town historian Vince Martonis recently designed a new historical marker to be placed in Forestville. This marker is commemorating Aaron Tupper, who purchased 378 acres of land in the Forestville area in 1807. As such, Tupper Brook, named after him, flows into Walnut Creek. The marker is on Lodi Street, where the brook crosses Route 39.

Since he became historian 1983, Martonis has placed a total of 15 historical markers in the Town of Hanover. Martonis gives credit to the Hanover Town Board and the residents of Hanover for their continuing commitment to preserving the area’s history.

Martonis is planning another placement in August, which will honor Silver Creek’s portrait and landscape painter Amos Wight, who was also a newspaper editor and a well-known 19th century photographer.

The marker will be conjoined with a program on Wight at the Anderson-Lee Library, which houses one of the more notable landscape paintings Wight did, featuring a detailed overview of Silver Creek from what, at the time, was just a hill.

Starting at $3.50/week.
