Brocton man seriously hurt in Route 5 accident

A motorcycle involved in a crash on Route 5 is pictured.

A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries after a Saturday afternoon collision with a vehicle on Route 5.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies say they along with Fredonia Fire Department responded to the intersection of VanBuren Road in the town of Pomfret around 3:29 p.m. An investigation and reconstruction of the accident found Merritt Wolcott, 31, of Brocton was operating a 1996 Suzuki Motorcycle westbound on Route 5 at a high rate of speed.

Kaitlyn Hill, 21, of Noblesville, Ind., was operating a 2013 Toyota Sedan northbound on VanBuren Road crossing Route 5 to continue onto Lake Avenue. Hill pulled into the intersection and was struck in the passenger side rear door by Wolcott’s motorcycle.

As a result of the collision, Wolcott was treated at the scene and airlifted by Stat Medivac to a Pennsylvania hospital. Hill was not injured. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
