FORESTVILLE — It’s been a busy summer at the Forestville Central School District when it comes to buildings and grounds as well asa student enrichment program progress is being made.
As far as students go, the summer enrichment program has been in full force. Sessions have been ongoing since July 5. There have been many programs that have gone on, including basketball and science programs. Forestville School Board President Amy Drozdziel said that the program has been met with “a lot of positive feedback” and the kids are having a lot of fun.
There have been an average of 35 to 40 students per day, and the highlights have included making marble roller coasters, popsicle stick catapults, and other fun things all done by Forestville alum Brenda Kerstetter. There was also a nutrition and fitness class, indoor and outdoor sports, and a rocket class.
“They made their own rocket out of a two liter pop bottle,” Drozdziel said. “And they made their own space helmet and when they did the launch, they wore the helmets.”
As far as buildings and ground renovations go, the much needed drainage work on the school’s athletic fields has begun. The old football field has had its borders dug up so the work can take place. The issue was first brought up in March of this year, and the school board supported the work being done in April. This project will both help the athletic fields, and alleviate draining issues by the sidewalk at the elementary school.
The next Forestville School Board meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
