Gowanda names top October students

Riley Tighe

GOWANDA – The Student Council of Gowanda High School named six outstanding Panthers as Students of the Month for October. Honorees are selected based on the following attributes – collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity – otherwise known as The Four C’s. These skills and characteristics are central to the district’s mission and values.

Those receiving recognition included:

¯ Riley Tighe for communication: “First and foremost, Riley is a good worker, has good attendance, and displays impeccable behavior. She exemplifies communication through her always positive outgoing personality,” says social studies teacher Mr. David Bohn. “Never afraid to ask questions, Riley is highly inquisitive and often brings her own knowledge to discussions, making her a positive and informative influence on the whole class. If I had a room full of resourceful and informed students like Riley I’d be teaching a college level course. She’s a good kid.”

¯ Chris Muntz for critical thinking: “Chris Muntz has worked very hard and progressed quickly in Mixed Chorus” says music teacher Ms. Robin Smith. “He began his freshman year with a strong work ethic and continues to make excellent progress.”

¯ Addison Kota for critical thinking: “Addison has the ability to solve complex math problems in her homework and tests without any assistance,: says math teacher Mr. Richard Weber. “Her critical thinking skills are truly remarkable. She is always prepared for class, respectful of others and strives for excellence on a daily basis. It has been wonderful having her as a geometry student this school year.”

¯ Gabriella Whipple for critical thinking: “Gabby is a hard worker. Her assignments show a deep understanding of the material and original insight,” says English teacher Lauren Giancola. “She writes intelligently and creatively, and is willing to make revisions to produce the best possible piece. Gabby’s contributions to class discussions are thoughtful, just like her approach to class work. I appreciate her work ethic.”

¯ Layla Gamble for communication: “Layla is an amazing communicator. She takes ownership of her learning and voices her concerns when she doesn’t understand something,” says science teacher Ms. Emma Relosky. “She is always willing to spend extra time (outside of class!) working on chemistry so she doesn’t fall behind. Her work ethic is admirable and something all students in the high school should strive to mimic. I am ecstatic that Layla is part of my nerd crew this year!”

¯ Hannah Szalay for creativity: “Hannah has a strong work ethic,” says art teacher Mrs. Heather Rydzik. “Rather than shying away from challenges, Hannah pushes herself to design meaningful work that requires her to develop past her current ability.”
