Pomfret board passes 2023 budget
The town of Pomfret’s board passed a $4,231,005 budget for 2023 during its meeting this month.
The vote was 4-0, with board member Brett Christy not present.
The spending plan will seek $1,444,276 in taxes from town residents. The total tax rate of $8.58 per $1,000 of assessed property is unchanged from 2022.
However, the “townwide rate,” which is essentially what residents of the village of Fredonia will pay, is up five cents per $1,000 assessed from 2022, to $4.17. The rate for town residents outside Fredonia is unchanged.
Fredonia Trustee James Lynden criticized Pomfret’s tax arrangement at Monday’s Board of Trustees meeting. He stated it was the second straight year village residents were being asked to shoulder a heavier tax burden, while non-village residents again got off with no tax hike.
The town tax levy came in about $44,000 under the state’s tax cap.
