Basketball causes Dunkirk school lockdown

A loose basketball led to a lockdown this morning at Dunkirk High School.

The lockdown lasted approximately 10 minutes, according to the Dunkirk school district’s communications director, Jennifer Westerholt. “The lockdown was a false alarm, which was caused by a basketball striking an alarm box in the Auxiliary Gymnaisum,” she stated.

“The Dunkirk Police Department determined that no immediate threat was detected,” she added. “At no time was the safety of students, faculty, or staff at risk.”

Westerholt said students and staff immediately returned to their regular schedules as soon as the lockdown was lifted.
