One person was transported to Brooks-TLC Hospital System after a fire before sunrise this morning in the city of Dunkirk.

The Dunkirk Fire Department reports it was dispatched to a the structure fire this morning at 5:38 at 92 W. Chestnut St.

Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy smoke conditions in a single family one-story house. The owner occupant fled the house prior to the department’s arrival.

The resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and transported to the hospital by ALSTAR EMS. Firefighters made entry inside the house and quickly extinguished the main body of fire.

There is extensive fire, heat and smoke damage throughout the residence. Mutual aid was received from East Dunkirk Fire Department.

The department was on scene for two hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
