Cameras help identify suspect in Rite Aid robbery

SILVER CREEK — A suspect in the robbery of Rite Aid on Saturday appears to have been caught on camera by the village’s security system.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, a white male around 6 feet tall, weighing about 200 pounds entered the Rite Aid Pharmacy located at 214 Central Ave. on Saturday night. The suspect made his way to the front cashier, demanded money and threatened harm to the employee.

A weapon was never displayed or mentioned, but the suspect did keep one hand in his jacket pocket. The suspect received $614 in cash and fled in a gray/tan vehicle, believed to be a Toyota Sienna with an orange New York license plate. He drove on Howard Street toward the direction of the Route 5 and Route 20 split, possibly into Erie County.

Silver Creek Village Trustee Steve Romanik told the OBSERVER that, thanks to the village’s security cameras, the suspect’s vehicle was seen driving through the village going to Rite Aid. A male matching the description of the suspect was seen exiting his vehicle and entering the store, then running out of the store moments later and taking off in the same vehicle.

Starting at $3.50/week.
