Forestville performance of ‘Sound of Music’ set for Thursday
FORESTVILLE — It’s that time of year where the buzz around the halls of Forestville Central Schools is focused on one thing — the school musical.
The school musical at Forestville this year, The Sound of Music, begins Thursday and runs through Saturday.
“The kids have worked a lot, they really have,” said Middle/High School Principal Dan Grande. “There’s been a lot of help from a lot of volunteers and other adults in there.”
Members of the district’s administration and Board of Education were treated to a private viewing of the rehearsal at the beginning of the most recent Board of Education meeting.
“After being gone for 10 years, one of the things I really missed was the musical. My wife and I are coming Thursday night, so I’m looking forward to that,” said Superintendent John O’Connor. Earlier this year, O’Connor was appointed for a new term as Forestville superintendent.
The Sound of Music was a stage musical composed by Richard Rogers in 1959, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical was adapted into a musical drama film in 1965, produced and directed by Robert Wise. After its release, the film became the highest-grossing film of all-time, with over $286 million at the box office. It received five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
