A successful wine bar in Hamburg is looking to expand in Chautauqua County.

Alchemy Farms LLC has recently purchased a 64 acre plot of land in for future development located at 7940 Felton Road, which has a Westfield address but sits in the town of Portland. There is about 29 acres of grapes on the property.

Alchemy Farms, which is owned by Ann McIntosh and Nicole Casell has applied for a loan through the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency.

Alchemy is a wine, beer and food bar in Hamburg. Customers there can also pick out select cheese, crackers and fruit to go with their adult beverages in a comfortable atmosphere.

Carol Rasmussen with the county IDA said the owners would like to mimic in Chautauqua County what they have in Hamburg. They would like to build an event center that would host weddings, bridal and baby showers, and more. A storage barn would also be constructed.

The plan is to continue to grow the grapes there and eventually grow flowers on the Portland property as well.

“The grapes are being cultivated by the gentleman that they brought the property from, who is going to stay on and assist them with the grape farming,” explained Rasmussen, adding that the property produces about 125 tons of grapes.

They have other plans for the property as well. “They want to go a little further with the Westfield property and maybe next year build some cabins on there and make it a tourist destination in that corner of Chautauqua County,” Rasmussen said.

Alchemy Farms is seeking a $177,720 loan for working capital and equipment. The entire project is expected to cost $671,220.

The county IDA Board of Directors unanimously approved the loan.

Starting at $3.50/week.
