Any college campus is accustomed to giving tours of its facilities, but Monday afternoon, SUNY Fredonia had a special guest on campus to take a tour for himself.

SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr. visited SUNY Fredonia on Monday afternoon as part of a 64-campus tour on his agenda. King arrived at Houghton Hall and Science Center shortly after 1:15 p.m. Monday and was guided on a tour of the campus.

On the tour, King visited a genetics lab at the Science Center, where students in the class of Associate Professor Dr. Scott Ferguson spoke about their work studying 3-D images of genetics. The tour also featured presentations in a collaborative space for students and professors, then a trip to Mason Hall for performances from students in the Fredonia School of Music.

Throughout the tour, King took an interest in the students and faculty he met with. He often asked students and faculty alike, “Tell me about your Fredonia story.”

King also heard from Matt Lanning, an environmental sciences and geology professor. Lanning talked about how the university is assisting the village by mapping out water connections digitally for the Department of Public Works.

SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr., left, visited with students in the SUNY Fredonia genetics lab on Monday afternoon during a tour of the campus.

One of the students King spoke at length with was Dylan Jaques, a senior from Saratoga Springs. King asked Jaques about his experiences at Fredonia and his plans for the future after Jaques performed a piano solo for King and the party touring the campus with him in the Rosch Recital Hall.

The tour of the campus lasted approximately two hours, after King also toured the Jamestown Community College campus on Monday morning.

Starting at $3.50/week.
