Hanover approves FOIL request on police

HANOVER -- The Hanover Town Board wants to know more about the police officers serving the community.
At a recent meeting, the Town Board authorizedClerk Tim Crino to file a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request with Chautauqua County related to police protection in the area. The request is for any and all records detailing any and all actual cost and information used to arrive at total actual cost associated with the village of Silver Creek and the town of Hanover Enhanced Police Protection Contracts for the years of 2020, 2021, and 2022. The request will include -- but is not limited to -- the names of the deputies assigned to the Village of Silver Creek and the Town of Hanover, hourly rates of pay, benefits, insurance, contractual expenses, and vehicle depreciation. The Town Board approved the motion for the request by a vote of 3-1, with Councilman Lou Pelletter against the request and Councilman Bernie Feldmann absent. The town additionally received feedback from the Federal Railroad Administration that the proposed quiet zone project on Hanford Road near Hanford Bay would not be approved. The reasoning behind the decision, according to the Town's Code Enforcement, was that the area is not wide enough to support the required safety measures for a quiet zone. The town of Hanover also set a public hearing for a local law pertaining to residency requirements of the building inspector, the zoning enforcement officer, the code enforcement officer, and any deputies. The hearing will take place at 7:30 p.m. May 8, during the next regularly scheduled Town Board meeting.
