Silver Creek pursues new code enforcer

OBSERVER Photo by Braden Carmen Silver Creek Mayor Jeff Hornburg noted that the village is “actively pursuing” new code enforcement, as the current Code Enforcement Officer, Daniel Hogg, transitions to a new job with the county.

The village of Silver Creek is “actively pursuing a replacement” for Code Enforcement Officer Daniel Hogg, according to Silver Creek Mayor Jeff Hornburg.

Hogg is set to resign to accept a new position within the county. Hogg also recently resigned from his role as the town of Hanover’s code enforcement officer.

Before a recent Silver Creek Village Board meeting, a public hearing was held regarding the preliminary village budget for the upcoming year. No public comments were made.

In the preliminary budget, the tentative amount to be raised on the year is $1,076,865. The tax cap is $1,102,002, which leaves the village $25,137 under the tax cap.

It features a 1.25% increase in tax rate, up to 13.385082%. The preliminary budget was presented prior to the requests of the department heads for the upcoming year. There are no increases in salaries for the mayor or village trustees.

Hornburg also shared the news that the village received permission to hold the Independence Day fireworks show at Hideaway Bay on July 3. The event will also feature a concert from 2nd Time Around, vendors in attendance, and festivities to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the village of Silver Creek.

The village is also seeking additional help during the summer. Three positions are open, consisting of two Streets Department workers and one Water/Sewer Department.

“We have a lot that we want to get accomplished,” Hornburg said.

Additionally, the village is seeking bids on a new one-ton, 4×4 utility bed pickup truck for the Water/Sewer Department.
