City schools seek building sale to mental health clinic

The Dunkirk City School District wants to sell property on Fourth Street to a mental health clinic. However, school district voters must approve it.

The district Board of Education approved the sale of the Boorady Building, 88-92 W. Fourth Street, to BestSelf Behavioral Health for $160,000. The board did so during a meeting last week, where the sale was the only item on the agenda.

The sale cannot go through unless district voters approve it in December. However, if approved, BestSelf will be allowed to use the building before the closing of the sale.

According to the resolution approving it, the board wants to do the sale because it feels the district no longer needs the space. Formerly home to a school reading clinic, the building has sat empty for a few years now. It’s in the same block as Northern Chautauqua Catholic School.

BestSelf has clinics across Western New York, including in Fredonia. One of its services is opiate addiction treatment, which it offers from its Orchard Park location.
