Town of Pomfret residents who get water from Cassadaga or Fredonia will see a rise in water rates.
Dan Pacos, town supervisor, told the Pomfret Town Board at its May meeting that Cassadaga is raising water rates by $1 per 1,000 gallons used as of June 1. He motioned to raise the rate by the same amount for Lily Dale customers who get water from Cassadaga, and the board approved it.
Other Pomfret residents who do not get water from the North County Water District are supplied by Fredonia’s system.
Pacos said Fredonia is raising water and sewer rates by 15 cents per 1,000 gallons. He added that due to the rate formula in the Fredonia-Pomfret water contract, town residents will actually end up paying about 18 cents more per 1,000.
He motioned to raise the rate for Fredonia water users by 18 cents per 1,000 and the board agreed.
Pacos added that the resolution of Fredonia and Pomfret’s contractual dispute has literally paid dividends.
“For the last quarter, the last results I looked at, we’re in the black,” he said. “Not by a lot, but it’s in the black.”
Board member Christopher Schaeffer commented, “That’s a nice change.”
