UPDATE: Police seek assistance in Dunkirk shooting

Dunkirk police are asking for the public’s assistance after a shooting on Maple Avenue in the area of East Sixth Street.
In a news release issued Tuesday night, officers said they were called to a disturbance where shots were fired and one person was struck after 4:25 p.m. The victim was transported to Brooks-TLC Hospital System in Dunkirk and later transferred to ECMC in Buffalo via Mercy Flight. This incident was targeted among people who know each other.
The Dunkirk Police Department was assisted by District Attorney Jason Schmidt, New York State Police, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Jamestown Police Department, University Police, Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team, and Dunkirk Fire Department, Alstar Ambulance.

While at the scene, it appeared there were a number of bullets surrounding the house. Jamestown police assisted at the scene.

Small crowds gathered around the location on Sixth Street, many with questions regarding what happened earlier in the day. The main thoroughfare — the street is part of Route 60 — was closed until 7:45 p.m. before being reopened to traffic.
