BROCTON -- The Village of Brocton has found its new leader of the summer recreation program.

At a recent Village Board meeting, the Village of Brocton hired Maleah Vazquez as Director of Summer Recreation. Vazquez is a Brocton native who now resides in Fredonia. She worked with the recreation program last summer, and also has experience working at BOCES and Northern Chautauqua Catholic School.

"I feel she would be a great person to run our program," said Village Trustee Kari Doino.

The village is anticipating the hire of six workers for the summer recreation program, which will also work closely with the Ahira Hall Memorial Library.

Interested candidates should apply through the village clerk's office at (716) 792-4160.

The next meeting of the Brocton Village Board will be held Wednesday, June 21 at 6 p.m., beginning with a public hearing required for a local law amending the election schedule for volunteer firefighters in the village.

If the law is amended, as the Fire Department requested, the date of the annual meeting of the Brocton Fire Department would change from the first Tuesday in April of each year to the first Tuesday in May of each year. At the annual meeting, members of the company shall elect chiefs, line officers, wardens, and delegates of the Brocton Fire Department. The terms of all officers shall commence on the first day of June and end on the final day of May of the following year, each and every year. The local law shall be effective upon filing with the secretary of the state.
