Fredonia water now safe to drink, county says

The Chautauqua County Health Department has lifted the boil-water order for all village of Fredonia water customers, including customers within the town of Pomfret. Turbidity in the distribution system has returned to acceptable levels and two consecutive days of testing indicate that the water throughout the distribution system is safe for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, making coffee.

A maintenance issue Wednesday in the reservoir and a disabled storage unit on Webster Road is responsible for this latest crisis, the sixth since 2009 and second in less than four months.

Starting at $3.50/week.
