An afternoon of fun resulted in a local group surpassing its fundraising goal for a unique event later this month.

The third annual Parking Lot Olympics were at the Dunkirk Falcon Club last month in support of the Dunkirk Falcon hockey team’s participation in the upcoming 2023 11-Day Power Play.

At the Parking Lot Olympics, 26 pairs of participants competed in six outdoor events, with the team of Matt Eaker and Brandon Haase winning the gold medal. Silver medalists were Mark Nero and Pam Begier, with Dwayne and Paula Bobik earning the bronze.

Donations were made to this event from the Dunkirk Falcon Club, Molson Coors, Kosciuszko Club, Dunkirk Exempts Club, WWII Vets Club, Matt’s News, Main Wine & Spirits, Vineyards Golf Course, Coughlans Pub, Chautauqua Health & Fitness, Shorewood Country Club, Nestle Purina, Fredonia Walmart, Ariens Company, Dupers, Fred’s, Mary’s Deli Dunkirk, and Applebee’s Dunkirk.

The 11-Day Power Play is a continuous hockey game that will be played for 11 straight days at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo from June 21 to July 1. It will be played by more than 2,300 hockey players to raise critically needed funds for important cancer causes in our community.

Donations raised benefit cutting-edge cancer research and wellness programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Make-A-Wish Western New York, Camp Good Days and Special Times, and the Roswell Park Oishei Children’s Cancer & Blood Disorders Program.

With the proceeds raised at the Parking Lot Olympics, the Dunkirk Falcon Team has surpassed their $10,000 fundraising goal. With a month left until the team skates their 3-hour shift on Tuesday, June 27, the team has increased its goal to $15,000.
