SUNY credit union lists scholarship winners

Annie Gondek

The SUNY Fredonia Federal Credit Union has announced scholarships to three high school students at their 48th Annual Membership Meeting held on May 23.

In 1974, Frances C. Granata was the first President of the SUNY Fredonia Federal Credit Union. In her honor, the 24th annual Frances C. Granata Scholarship was awarded to Annie Gondek. Annie Gondek, daughter of Patrick and Alison Gondek, is a senior at Fredonia High School.

Gondek was a four-year player and a two-year captain on the Varsity Soccer Team, a member of the National Honor Society, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, Ski Club, and Interact Club. She will be attending Nazareth College in the fall and will be a member of the Women’s Soccer Team. She will major in Communications and Media.

David White II, a Nichols School senior, is the recipient of the 24th annual Paul T. Schonhart scholarship. This scholarship is given in honor of Mr. Schonhart and his term as the Credit Union’s Board President from 1983-1998. David is the son of David and Monica White.

At Nichols, he has been an active member of the Buffalo Engineering Awareness for Minorities (BEAM) Robotics Team, where he worked to build and program robots. He is President of the Nichols’ Fight Club, an executive board member of Nichols’ Black Student Union, an active member of the Chess and D&D Clubs. He also played one year of JV baseball and, for the past two years, has served as a Peer Mentor in the Nichols Mentorship Program. David had the opportunity to present his short film to the Nichols’ student body about Dr. Martin Luther King, which he wrote, produced, filmed and acted in.

In the fall, David plans to attend the Savannah College of Art & Design to study animation and storytelling.

Gabriella Domenico is the recipient of the 22nd annual Patricia M. Rushboldt scholarship. The scholarship is given in memory of Rushboldt, a dedicated employee of the SUNY Fredonia Federal Credit Union for 28 years. Gabriella Domenico, daughter of Jason and Jillian Domenico, is a senior at Fredonia High School. Gabriella is a two-term president of Fredonia’s Unified Club. In addition, she has served as a TOP Soccer buddy for NYSWYSA mentoring athletes with emotional, physical, or intellectual disabilities.
