The Fredonia Farm Festival has announced Stand Fast Farm will be the grand marshal for the 55th annual event.
Tim and Rachel Grant, married for 16 years, are the owners and proprietors of Stand Fast Farm in the town of Dunkirk, along with their son Micah. Stand Fast Farms came to life after purchasing an abandoned farm house and purchasing their first cows from Ernie Maslach.
Tim Grant's family has been farming on Berry Road for decades. He fell in love with beef cattle as a young boy thanks to his grandfather, George Grant, who also raised cattle. He grew up helping his parents in the grape vineyard and working at Loyal Oak Greenhouse.
Farming is in his blood, and he always dreamed of having his own farm. His love for beef cattle led to an internship with the Elzinga family of Alderspring Ranch in May, Idaho. This internship showed him that he could run his own farm, so he moved back to Fredonia and the rest is history.
The Grants have grown the farm into the thriving business that it is now. They pride themselves on the fact that all the cattle are totally grass fed, and the chickens and turkeys are raised on pasture and fed certified organic grain. Having more than 100 acres of pasture is not enough for them. They rent land from the Conti Family in Arkwright and from Chris and Sheila Cannon. The name Stand Fast comes from the Grant Family Clan in Scotland. Stand Fast is the Grant Clan motto and their farm logo is their family crest modified to include one of their cows.
Currently, they have more than 100 head of cattle and 130 chickens. They butcher three to four cows a month, 400 to 500 chickens each summer, and more than 100 turkeys for the holidays.
They specialize in wholesale to businesses and large quantity sales to individuals because they can offer the greatest value to their customers by keeping these prices lower on a unit basis.
They butcher monthly and take orders year-round. Their beef is also available at Lexington Food Co-op in Buffalo. Their website is at standfastbeef.com.
The Grant family will be opening the 55th Annual Fredonia Farm Festival at the Gazebo in Barker Common on Friday, Aug. 25 at noon. They will also be in the Grand Parade on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m. and presenting the trophy for the Grand Marshal's pick at the Antique Car Show on the same day.
