Gowanda School Board elects new vice president

GOWANDA -- There was not much intrigue surrounding the election of Board of Education president at Gowanda's annual organizational meeting, as Max Graham was re-elected president. He was the only candidate nominated by the board.

"It would be a shame if I lost," Graham joked.

More intrigue surrounded the position of vice president, as both Dollene Christopher and Barbara Weston were nominated by the board. Former Vice President Dana Szalay-Delaney departed from the board after the 2022-23 school year concluded. Weston nominated Christopher for the role, while Mark Nephew then nominated Weston.

"If Barb would like it, I would love for her to have it," Christopher said.

Weston responded, invoking laughter from the room, "I would not, that's why I nominated you."

The board then voted on ballots that were read aloud. Christopher was elected as vice president by a vote of 4-3.

Also at the meeting, newly elected board member Zachary Nobles and re-elected member Mark Nephew were officially sworn in, along with Superintendent Dr. Robert Anderson and District Clerk Kathy Ferneza.
