SHERIDAN — The town of Sheridan lost its supervisor when John H. Walker II died unexpectedly in early June.
An instrumental figure in Chautauqua County, Walker’s loss leaves a seat to fill on multiple different boards and committees throughout the county.
Sheridan, for the moment, has decided not to fill his seat as town supervisor.
A recent Sheridan Town Board meeting was led by Richard Feinen, who is the town’s Deputy Supervisor. However, rather than appointing Feinen or another member of the board as Town Supervisor, the town is proceeding without a supervisor.
Town residents will vote to elect a new supervisor this November, as the seat will be listed on the ballot. However, there are no candidates to have expressed interest in the role as of the most recent meeting.
At the recent meeting, the Town Board approved the purchase of a sign to honor Walker’s legacy to be placed on the new pavilion at Sheridan Bay Park once it is constructed. Highway Superintendent Jeffrey Feinen proposed the idea, prepared with quotes. “I would like the Board to dedicate the pavilion in memory of John Walker,” he said.
The Town Board unanimously approved the motion. “I think the pavilion is a great idea,” Town Board member Colleen Yerico said.
The pavilion is anticipated to be finished sometime this summer, with a dedication in Walker’s honor when it is officially opened to the public.
