Coroner called after pedestrian struck at Tops plaza

An adult female pedestrian was fatally injured at the Tops Plaza in the town of Dunkirk Wednesday afternoon.

The call came in about 2:30 p.m. Approximately 45 minutes later, somber shoppers quietly went about their business with part of the parking lot blocked by police tape. A form covered in a white tarp was within the tape. The coroner was called to the scene.

A Tops employee directed people away from the entrance closest to the scene. A New York State Police investigator was gesturing and talking to fellow officers at the edge of the tape.

The East Dunkirk Fire Department and Alstar Ambulance also responded.

NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation are assisting in the active investigation.
