UPDATE: Woman fatally struck in Tops parking lot is identified
A Dunkirk woman was fatally injured at the Tops Plaza in the town of Dunkirk Wednesday afternoon.
The call came in about 2:36 p.m. Approximately 45 minutes later, somber shoppers quietly went about their business with part of the parking lot blocked by police tape. A form covered in a white tarp was within the tape. The coroner was reportedly called to the scene.
An investigation by State Police at Fredonia determined that a 2018 Ford traveling southbound struck Barbara A. Sam, 69, of Dunkirk, who was walking north in the parking lot of Tops. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in this investigation, which is still ongoing.
The East Dunkirk Fire Department and Alstar Ambulance also responded.
On Tuesday, a car-pedestrian accident took place near the Save a-Lot plaza in Dunkirk. Dunkirk fire and police responded to that incident that took place around 1:40 p.m.
