Fredonia Central School District hire new IT worker

The Fredonia Central School District has begun to address the needs of its technology department with a recent hire.
Ryan Lepp was appointed as a Network Technician at the district's most recent Board of Education meeting. The position, which was reinstated shortly before his appointment, is a year-round full-time position beginning this week.
According to Fredonia Superintendent Brad Zilliox, through the reorganization of the IT department, the district will now employ a Computer Specialist through BOCES; a Network Technician, who will serve as a "behind the scenes technical skills person"; and a Technology Director, who will focus on the integration of technology in the classroom. The district previously employed three Technology Department workers, but in recent years, the district only had two employees in the department – both of which retired after the school year.
"We're looking to kind of get the best of both worlds by shifting slightly," Zilliox said.
Lepp, who was in attendance at the recent meeting, has nearly two decades of experience in technology – including 16 years in the education system.
"I look forward to bringing my knowledge here," Lepp said.
Lepp also serves as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, is the Assistant Chief of the Cherry Creek Fire Department, and serves as a town councilman in Cherry Creek.
"Ryan's got a lot going on beyond his technical skills, did a nice job in our interview, and we're glad to have him on board," Zilliox said.
The district also approved the appointment of Rebecca Gibson, a Pine Valley graduate and current student at Erie Community College, as a food service helper and Noah Tarbell, a current Fredonia High School student, as a cleaner. Jana Ashworth resigned from an elementary teaching position.
The district also accepted the resignation of Christine Slagle, District Clerk and Secretary to the Superintendent. In addition to her duties as District Clerk, Slagle was instrumental in a partnership between the district and SUNY Fredonia, where college students played a major role with editing the Fredonia Forum newsletter. The partnership began in Fall of 2019. Students of Dr. Natalie Gerber's class at SUNY Fredonia attended a Board of Education meeting earlier this year to share how beneficial the partnership was to them as students.
In Slagle's absence, Business Administrator John Forbes has served as District Clerk for the Board of Education meetings so far this summer.
