It’s officially Dunkirk High School
What’s the name of that big Dunkirk school district building on Sixth Street? According to Superintendent Michael Mansfield, it’s simply Dunkirk High School.
“We never came back to school renaming on this building,” Mansfield told the Dunkirk Board of Education. District officials briefly debated renaming the school last year. It houses grades 7 through 12 after a realignment three years ago.
In voting at a school event last year, Mansfield said Dunkirk High School came out slightly ahead of Dunkirk Secondary School.
“I was going to put it through one more time because we’re going through some sign projects and things. We need to kind of make a decision here,” he said.
“We talk a lot about our secondary school in our meetings and things like that, but I think what the public knows is Dunkirk High School,” the superintendent added.
“Or the Claudia Szczerbacki Academy,” joked Board President Kenneth Kozlowski, drawing widespread laughter. Szczerbacki is the board vice president.
Mansfield told Tim Abbey, facilities director, the name of the building will be Dunkirk High School going forward.
