SILVER CREEK -- The Village of Silver Creek is planning to make improvements downtown. The former Revere Inn property has been acquired by the village from the Chautauqua County Land Bank, and the village plans to clear the area for public use.

"We're going to clean that up and make a little park area for the time being," Mayor Jeff Hornburg said.

The village plans to have benches, a flag pole and grass installed at the site, which will be fenced. Blacktop work has already been done at the site, with 4-5 additional parking spaces created.

Hornburg stated one business was interested in purchasing the site to make it a parking lot, but he deemed a park a better use for the site.

"I really didn't want a parking lot in the middle of the village property. We're going to rejuvenate it in another way," Hornburg said.

The village also cleared approximately an acre of land at the little league baseball fields for the purpose of adding more parking. Playground equipment that was removed when the village park playground was updated has been moved up to the little league fields, as well.

Refurbishment of the Rix Place basketball court is set to begin within the next month. The Village of Silver Creek and the Town of Hanover each donated to the project, which will be led by the Silver Creek Kiwanis Club. Hornburg previously stated, "The Kiwanis Club is taking the lead on it," said Hornburg. "We're very happy they are interested in doing it, and we're also happy to assist in making it come to light."
