Gowanda installs new scoreboard in time for Homecoming

GOWANDA -- A long-awaited new scoreboard has finally arrived at Gowanda's Hillis Field.
Shortly before the Homecoming football game against Wilson on Friday, the district proudly revealed its new scoreboard through social media.
The district also recently received new Elementary School playground equipment. Installation will take place within the coming weeks. "It really is exciting," Superintendent Dr. Robert Anderson said.
Additionally, Anderson told the Board of Education that plans for the pool repair are expected to be approved within the coming days after the recent board meeting. The district's engineers will review the plans before the project is put out for bids in mid-October, with a target for the board to accept a contract on Nov. 15.
The district also accepted donations for a pair of sports teams, in the amount of $2,808.13 from the Gowanda Boosters from the pancake breakfast to benefit the football team, as well as $832.00 from a raffle from a group of supporters to benefit the varsity lacrosse teams.
The Board of Education also continued discussions regarding hiring an athletic trainer. Although the district has contracted a trainer for some events individually, it is the belief of the district and Athletic Director Candace Phillips that the position would be much easier to fill long-term if it were made a part-time or a full-time position. Evaluation of the district's needs will continue in the coming months.
