Silver Creek honored as Unified Banner School

SILVER CREEK -- After a basketball game against Dunkirk last spring, Silver Creek Unified Basketball Coach Jennifer Johnson said, "This has been something that's been the highlight of my work. ... I look forward to this all year long."
A program that has provided highlights for so many deserving students within the district recently received well-deserved recognition.
The Silver Creek Unified Sports program was recently selected by the Special Olympics of North America as a National Banner Unified Champion School. Silver Creek Superintendent Dr. Katie Ralston was proud to share the news of the "great honor" with the Board of Education at its recent meeting.
"Congratulations to Janet Decker (Unified Sports Advisor) and everyone who worked with her to really take the lead to make that happen," Ralston said.
The district met all 10 requirements in the application to be selected as a banner district. Dunkirk's Secondary School also recently received the same honor. Silver Creek's official banner will be delivered to the district at a time yet to be determined.
The district also recently opened bids for its 2023-24 Capital Outlay Project prior to its latest Board of Education meeting. The district's focus for the project, not to exceed $100,000, is to replace flooring and carpeting in the middle school. The district received two bids, both of which were within the district's price range. The Board of Education will choose to accept or deny a bid for the project at its next meeting, Oct. 12.
