Fredonia gains another experienced teacher

The Fredonia Central School District has made a habit of attracting some of the most qualified teachers in the area, and it has done it again with another recent hire.
Erin Lamp, a professionally certified teacher in English Language Arts Grades 7-12 and English to Speakers of Other Languages, will be leaving her role at Brocton Central School to join Fredonia on Oct. 27. Lamp, who has eight years of experience in English as a New Language (ENL) services, will serve a four-year probationary appointment before she can receive tenure at Fredonia.
"We're happy to have Erin joining us from Brocton," Fredonia Superintendent Dr. Brad Zilliox said. "She's got a nice, well-rounded background in education and she's been extremely successful. The reference checks we got were glowing, and we look forward to her coming on board."
In addition to Lamp's switch from Brocton, Fredonia has also attracted teachers from various other districts in the recent months, including from Cassadaga Valley and Jamestown. Lamp will join Fredonia after finishing the required 30-day notice portion of her contract at Brocton.
"Fredonia has been my home for 10 years. I've raised my kids in this district. While I'm sad to say goodbye to Brocton, I'm so excited to be a part of the Fredonia family," Lamp said. "Thank you for this opportunity."
Lamp fills a new position at the district, which was created after additional needs were identified by the district this year. Part of the district's increased ENL needs come from new students in the district from Mongolia and from China.
The district also approved overages for three Middle School Special Education teachers: Karen Harrington, Laura Colvenbach, and Madalyn Mueller.
"In order to accommodate needs at the Middle School, three of our teachers have voluntarily agreed to teach overages. … We thank them very much for doing so. This helps get our students what they need," Zilliox said.
Permanent appointments recently awarded by the district were to teacher aides Elizabeth Sissem and Samuel Correa, and to teacher assistant Elizabeth DeFries.
The district also appointed per diem substitutes of various roles within the district. Appointed were Hannah Suchanick, Amanda Gallagher, Kevin Redfield, Julia Giannicchi, Selina Marrero, Michelle Gerring, Tristan Tarbell, Mary Burnside, Elizabeth Ocasio, Elizabeth Bumpus, and Bruce Morrison. The district also approved the resignation of Melanie Mann, High School Secretary.
