After three years, SUNY Fredonia President Stephen Kolison is finally moving to town.

The century-old Lanford House on Central Avenue is designated as the university president's home. However, it was showing its age before a renovation project began.

Kolison has never lived in the home since taking SUNY Fredonia's top job in 2020, opting to commute from his Hamburg residence.

The Lanford House renovations are still ongoing, but Kolison told the College Council this week he's moving in around Oct. 23.

"This was supposed to be just eight months, but once you see something here, then you see something else," Kolison said of the renovations.

"Contractors -- sometimes, they take their own time," he added.

The interior renovations are said to be nearly complete, but there is still plenty of exterior work to do. Nevertheless, "I need to be here," Kolison said.

He did not specify if he would be living at the Lanford House full time.

The Lanford House is named after Oscar E. Lanford, who served as university president from 1961 to 1971.
