HANOVER -- A recent Hanover Board meeting featured a discussion between the Town Board and Martha Boutet of the Planning Board regarding address numbers on buildings.
Boutet presented the Town Board with a proposal for the code to require address numbers be visible on all buildings in the town. The Hanover Center volunteered to provide numbers at a cost of $10.
Rather than a means of locating a residence for delivery drivers, Hanover Supervisor Todd Johnson referred to the issue as a matter of safety in case of an emergency, so that law enforcement or emergency services can easily locate a property.
"It's all about public safety. That should be the main focus," Johnson said. "... I couldn't care less about the Amazon driver wanting to know where you live."
Town Councilman Bernie Feldmann, Jr., stated, "We'll definitely take it under consideration."
Also of note, after a hectic few weeks of being short-handed, the Hanover Water and Sewer Department is receiving some extra help.
Peter Pike and Aaron Weiskerger were hired as Sewer Treatment Plant Attendants at a rate of $24.11 per hour, effective immediately. Each new member of the department was in attendance at a recent Town Board meeting for their official appointment.
"I think we got two really good employees to serve us in the Water and Sewer Department," said Feldmann.
The Town Board also approved Boat Launch fees for 2024. Boat launch and/or fish cleaning is $10 per day or $100 for a season pass, or $50 for a season pass after July 31. Kayak, canoe, or any other non-motorized watercraft is $3 per day, or $30 for the season.
The Town Board also approved healthcare plans for eligible employees or retirees; a shared services agreement with the Department of Transportation; and a reimbursement of $1,000 to the Silver Creek Hanover Garden Club for its expenses in 2023.
The Town also received notice of Judge Philip Hall and Planning Board Birthe Hall's intent to resign from their roles in the Town by the end of 2023. Each resignation will appear on the agenda at the next monthly meeting of the Hanover Town Board, Dec. 11.
