Planet Fitness moves forward in Dunkirk

Since the September monthly meeting of the Dunkirk Town Board, more than 10 new building permits have been issued. Among them are multiple permits related to the ongoing construction of a new Planet Fitness gym, located at the former Brand Names Sales building. The gym hopes to be open before the end of 2023.

The town also approved eight demolition permits, including the dismantling of seven mobile homes at Lakeside Park, as well as additional work at Planet Fitness. Increased signage for Planet Fitness was approved by a variance.

The town is also seeking the purchase of an AED for the Town Hall and Court. Town Board Member Priscilla Penfold brought the topic forward at a recent meeting.

Town Supervisor Juan Pagan, a lifetime member and President of the East Dunkirk Fire Department, and Town Board Member Dr. G. Jay Bishop, Associate Section Head of Vascular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, each recognize the significance of an AED on the premises. Bishop is assisting the town in the purchase of an AED through his connections and also volunteered to offer training on AED use.

“I’m happy to volunteer my time to do that. It’s a very worthy cause,” Dr. Bishop said.

The next regular monthly meeting of the Dunkirk Town Board has been rescheduled to Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m., one week earlier than previously scheduled.

Starting at $3.50/week.
