Earlier this month, Chautauqua County School Board Association (CCSBA) was privileged to have Dr. Stephen Kolison, President of SUNY Fredonia, as the presenter for its October dinner program. The event was hosted at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel in Celoron.

Kolison highlighted the many areas of the university that set it apart from others, as well as all that it has to offer for prospective college students of our area.

He discussed the competitive athletic teams, the variety of programs, as well as the difference in the affordability of its tuition compared to other colleges of similar caliber.

Whether on the athletic fields or in the classroom, SUNY Fredonia has proven to be an affordable, dependable choice for quality education with diverse opportunities for its students.

Within this presentation, Kolison also surprised attendees with a most generous gift; The President's Excellence Award. Dr. Kolison stated; "We want to invest in a very special way in this county, in our students."

This award is intended to be a four-year scholarship to SUNY Fredonia, a $24,000 value, for one student from each district.

Jamestown City School district will receive two scholarships, due to its size. Over a four-year period, with all scholarships combined, this initiative will invest nearly $500,000 in Chautauqua County students.

On behalf of all Chautauqua County districts, President of CCSBA, Sylvester Cleary thanked Kolison and his staff for such an incredibly generous opportunity for Chautauqua County students. Cleary stated, "Your presence means so much as we move forward and I am looking forward to a good, close relationship."
