Bud ‘n Bloom Club has holiday setting

The Bud ‘n Bloom Garden Club celebrated the holiday at the Shorewood Country Club. Pictured, left to right are Marie Zambotti, Judy Wilcox, Nancy Kohler, Barb Joy, Sue Alonge and Sally Newell. Also present were Karen Ryder and Lucy Hurley. The photo was taken by Sallie Muscato.

On a beautiful, sunny day in December, several members of the Bud ‘n Bloom Garden Club transformed the already lovely, historic Shorewood Country Club in Dunkirk into a winter wonderland for their holiday luncheon. The ladies had pre-ordered from a special menu.

Co-chairwomen Sue Alonge and Sallie Muscato chose white tablecloths and napkins to set the wintery scene for their group. In the center of the tables, small white birch tree branches were twinkling with white fairy lights. Nestled in the sparkling “snow” beneath were darling white reindeer, Christmas trees and snowballs.

At each place setting was a take-home, tiny vignette of a winter scene complete with a blinking tree and a cute little reindeer nestled in a bed of snow. Members were delighted to have a sweet reminder of the night. Continuing in the Arctic theme, the nearby dessert table also held a small birch tree with snowball lights and “snow.” This scene consisted of an old-fashioned chapel, an angelic angel and little polar bears prowling in the snow.

Snowflake shaped cut-out cookies created by Sweet Perfections and enhanced with special, sparkly snow-like sugar were individually wrapped and served as dessert. Sally Newell added chocolate caramel “turtle” candy treats topped with sparkly sea salt.

Co-presidents Judy Wilcox and Nancy Kohler welcomed the group and introduced the entertainment. Lucy Hurley, well-known musician and member, led the ladies in a selection of Christmas carols, singing and playing her keyboard. Song sheets were provided and a fun sing-a-long session was enjoyed by all.

The next meeting in January will be the annual planning/reorganization meeting. The date, time and place will be announced on the Bud ‘n Bloom website.
