Chief wastewater plant operator retiring in village

Sean Raynor
The head man at Fredonia’s wastewater treatment plant, Sean Raynor, is retiring in January.
“You’ve been nothing but professional,” Mayor Douglas Essek told Raynor at last month’s Board of Trustees meeting. “You finished the grant project that we had going on and you’ve been there to handle a slew of other major issues.”
After Essek and the trustees murmured their thanks, the mayor added, “Very well wishes moving forward on your retirement. I know you spoke before the meeting, you have a few things you’d like to spend more time with, and that’s absolutely right. Family and personal life rank top.”
Raynor’s retirement is effective Jan. 6, and the Board of Trustees accepted it Monday.
In his resignation letter, Raynor noted his civil service career began at Erie County Medical Center in 1993. He moved to the city of Dunkirk wastewater treatment plant in 1995 and started work at Fredonia’s plant in 2020.
“I am thankful for the time spent in Fredonia. This was a prayer answered from God,” he wrote. “Mayor Essek, former Mayor (Athanasia) Landis, and the trustees I have served under have been very supportive of me while I perform my job.
“I am also extremely thankful for the support of the wastewater treatment plant employees for helping me get acquainted with the plant’s operations. They made it easy to report for work every day.”
