Twichell still a Fredonia water dissident
Fredonia Trustee Michelle Twichell is trying again to get the Village Board to rescind its water decision.
Twichell announced at this week’s board workshop that she plans to introduce a resolution at Monday’s meeting to go with “Option 1” in LaBella’s water study. That would repair the village’s current infrastructure and not purchase water from an outside source.
However, trustees voted 3-2 on Dec. 26 to support “Option 3,” which would shut the village water treatment facility, draw down the reservoir and purchase water from Dunkirk. Twichell voted against that, as did Trustee James Lynden, but Lynden is no longer a trustee.
Twichell attempted a similar overturn of the Dec. 26 vote at a previous Board of Trustees meeting in January, but got no support.
With that fact apparently in mind, Trustee Nicole Siracuse wondered why Twichell was putting it on the agenda again. “I can put a resolution on as many times as I like,” Twichell replied.
Siracuse asked if Twichell wanted to wear people down, to get them on her side. “People might change their minds,” said Twichell.
“It seems highly ineffective, but that’s all right,” said Siracuse, who added it was a waste of Village Clerk Annemarie Johnston’s time. Johnston prepares the agendas for board meetings.
“No, it’s not. It’s village business,” responded Twichell.
Later in the workshop, it was revealed that new Mayor Michael Ferguson and new Trustees Ben Brauchler and Paul Wandel do not have unredacted copies of LaBella’s water study. Arrangements were made to get them the copies.
