Wdowiasz, council inaugurated in Dunkirk

Supporters and family filled the Dunkirk City Courthouse for the inauguration of new Mayor Kate Wdowiasz and Common Council members Monday.
The swearings-in happened during the first regular Common Council meeting of 2024. Former Councilman-at-large David Damico ran the beginning of the meeting, then quietly exited after the councilman-at-large elected in November, Nick Weiser, took his oath. Weiser took his place.
Ward representatives Natalie Luczkowiak, Abigail Yerico, James Stoyle and Nancy Nichols also were sworn in. The five council members took their oaths at the same time on the same Bible, the group looking much like a football huddle.
The new council ratified all of Wdowiasz's cabinet picks. Lillian Divine will return as city clerk, while Ellen Luczkowiak takes over as fiscal affairs officer and Elliot Raimondo is the new city attorney. Randy Woodbury remains Department of Public Works director and Vince DeJoy is still the city planning and development director.
