Fredonia's Webster Road water tank is back in service and fully operational, reported chief water system operator Luis Fred at the latest Board of Trustees meeting.
Fixing the tank was an important aspect of the Chautauqua County Board of Health's mandated action plan to correct the village's water system deficiencies. The tank, which also has a pumping station, is a key part of Fredonia's gravity-fed water system. However, it was out of service for most of 2023.
Fredonia Trustee Jon Espersen pointed out to the OBSERVER in early December that the tank had to be fully disinfected, inside and out, before it could be used again. The Board of Trustees approved a $39,980 expenditure in October for a Pittsburgh-area company to do the job.
The county Health Department wanted the tank back in service by May 1. It also called for upgraded security features at the site, including a fence.
The fence has been installed.
