HANOVER — In order to better prepare for the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8, the Town of Hanover has scheduled two meetings a month in advance to discuss the event.

The first meeting, set for Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m., is geared toward community leaders to discuss the Town’s preparedness and responses to potential issues. The Hanover Disaster Team will be at the meeting to discuss the information they have received.

The second meeting, set for Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m., is geared toward the general public and local business owners to share the information covered in the previous meeting and to further discuss any concerns the residents might have.

Each of the meetings will be in the Hanover Town Hall and Court. The Town is hopeful that eclipse glasses will be provided by Chautauqua County in time for the second public meeting.

Town Supervisor Lou Pelletter called for caution and preparation from the Town’s residents on the day of the eclipse and the weekend prior.

“If you need medication, get it before the eclipse,” Pelletter said.

The Town Board is also considering moving the date of the regular Board meeting scheduled for the night of the eclipse on April 8. Town Board member Bernie Feldmann Jr. suggested moving the meeting to the following night to avoid traffic concerns resulting from the solar eclipse that day.

More information will be released publicly following the upcoming meetings.
