Fredonia water info session April 10

SUNY Fredonia faculty members will join Chautauqua County Health Department officials for a public information session on Fredonia’s water system.

It’s set for 6:30 p.m. April 10 at the Fredonia Opera House. According to a press release from the county, “The presenters plan to provide attendees with a better understanding of the existing Fredonia water system and the areas within the system that require immediate and ongoing attention.”

SUNY Fredonia professors Courtney Wigdahl-Perry and Matthew Lanning will join Jessica Wuerstle and Natalie Whiteman of the county Health Department on the panel.

Lanning and Wighdahl-Perry are familiar with the structure and history of the Fredonia reservoir, and are currently involved in research projects about it. Wuerstle and Whiteman have worked closely with village officials for months as Fredonia’s water system addresses deficiencies and violations found by state inspectors.

Following the quartet’s presentation, they will answer questions from the public as time allows. The public is welcome to submit questions on index cards. However, as the county’s release notes, “The presenters will not be able to address specific questions regarding recent votes taken by the Village of Fredonia (trustees) or the specific finances referenced in the recent LaBella report, as those topics are not under the regulation of Chautauqua County Health Department or within the scope of SUNY research efforts.”

The event will also be live-streamed on Chautauqua County’s YouTube page.
