City still awaiting audit reports

Councilman-at-large Nick Weiser offered an update on audits of Dunkirk’s troubled finances during a Common Council meeting last week.

“The 2022 audit related documents have all been submitted to our independent auditors for their review. We expect that audit to be completed by the end of July,” he said. “Additionally, nearly all of the documents for the 2023 audit have been submitted and that audit will be conducted immediately following the completion of the 2022 audit.”

Weiser added, “I’m looking forward to receiving and reviewing those audit reports, as they will provide us with a clearer and more comprehensive picture of the city’s finances, which will be crucial for our budget discussions over the coming months.”

With Dunkirk deep “in the red,” council approved a $18.5 million bond from the state in March to fund city operations. The move requires city officials to regularly report on Dunkirk’s finances to the state Comptroller’s Office.

Starting at $2.99/week.
