Silver Creek plans creek bank stabilization

SILVER CREEK — The Village of Silver Creek’s efforts to stem the tides of the village have been met with much more optimism than a year ago.
The village received a $30,000 award of County Bed Tax funds last year to apply toward bank stabilization along Walnut Creek.
The Village did not find a contractor to do the necessary work,
This year, the Village appears to have better luck.
Mayor Jeff Hornburg was approached by a Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District representative to offer assistance. Hornburg expressed optimism that the work will proceed this summer.
Additionally, the Village will soon be milling Robinson Street. After attempting to work with the Town of Hanover to pave the street, because of an equipment issue in the Town, the Village will be receiving assistance from Chautauqua County through a shared services agreement. The Village is also seeking an engineering firm to evaluate Buffalo Street for future improvements.
Hornburg also commended the recent Children’s Fair in the Village, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. “It was a very nice turnout, with great weather, and I think everybody was very happy with it,” Hornburg said.
Hornburg also noted that the Youth Recreation Program had a positive turnout for registration, with approximately 90 children registered. The six-week program begins July 8 and runs through Aug. 16. The Village anticipates approximately 120 children to be part of the program, with two field trips included, highlighted by a visit to Waldameer and Water World.
The next mobile food pantry event in the Village Municipal Parking Lot will be Tuesday, June 25, beginning at 11 a.m.
